Vision Care Recognised as a Superbrand, Reaffirming its Leadership in Eye Care Excellence!

Vision Care, Sri Lanka’s largest vision, hearing and eyewear solutions provider, has been recognised as a Superbrand for 2025, marking a significant milestone in its journey of delivering trusted, high-quality eye care to communities across the island.

Superbrands is the world’s independent arbiter of branding, celebrating the strongest and most valuable brands that demonstrate a clear advantage in their category and a meaningful connection with consumers. In Sri Lanka, participation in the Superbrands programme is by invitation only, and brands awarded Superbrand status are selected following evaluation by the Superbrands Council, a panel comprising experts from the fields of branding, marketing, design and advertising, supported by extensive research into market performance and consumer perception. This recognition enhances a brand’s standing and reassures customers and stakeholders that they are engaging with a proven industry leader.

The selection process follows a rigorous merit-based methodology. Independent research and expert assessment ensure that only brands with strong market presence, consistent performance and high levels of consumer trust are honoured. Criteria such as quality, reliability and emotional connection with customers are key considerations, making the Superbrand title a credible symbol of excellence.

Commenting on the achievement, Kasun Wijesena, Marketing Manager of Vision Care, said, “Being recognized as a Superbrand is a proud moment for us at Vision Care. It reflects the trust our customers place in us and our commitment to delivering excellence through vision, quality and compassion. This recognition motivates us to keep raising the bar in eye care for every Sri Lankan.”

Founded in February 1992, Vision Care set out to revolutionize Sri Lanka’s eye care industry. Over the past three decades, the company has evolved into the country’s leading provider of scientifically driven, world class eye care solutions, supported by a team of experienced optometrists and advanced diagnostic technology.

Today, Vision Care offers a comprehensive range of internationally acclaimed spectacles, sunglasses, and contact lenses, catering to diverse lifestyles and budgets. The company’s operations are guided by five core pillars, originality, technology, accessibility, sustainability and people, which continue to shape its growth and market leadership.

The company has consistently invested in its people, fostering a culture of inclusivity and professional development. With the establishment of the Vision Care Academy in 2008, the organization provides world-class in-house training in optometry, ensuring the continuous development of skilled professionals across its network.

Beyond its commercial success, Vision Care remains deeply committed to social responsibility. Its flagship community initiative Nethralokana Sathkara has provided free spectacles to deserving individuals across the island, reflecting its mission to improve lives through better vision.

As Vision Care continues to expand its branch network and embrace new technologies, the Superbrand recognition stands as a testament to its enduring promise to deliver exceptional eye care to Sri Lanka today and for generations to come.

Tanzania’s National Insurer NIC Earns Second Consecutive Superbrand Recognition!

NAIROBI: Tanzania’s National Insurance Corporation (NIC) has been awarded Superbrand status for the second consecutive year, reinforcing its reputation as one of the region’s most trusted insurance providers and highlighting its growing profile within East Africa’s financial services sector.

The recognition was announced at the Superbrands Tribute Event in Nairobi, an executive gathering attended by more than 200 senior leaders from across the region. NIC was selected under the Superbrands Volume 9 programme, which evaluates brands based on trust, quality, reputation, and market leadership.

The award was received on behalf of NIC’s Managing Director, Kaimu Abdi Mkeyenge, by Karimu Meshack, Director of Marketing and Communication, who represented the Corporation at the event.

Industry analysts view NIC’s back-to-back Superbrand recognition as a signal of institutional consistency in a sector where credibility and reliability are critical. The distinction reflects NIC’s ongoing efforts to strengthen governance, modernise service delivery, and deepen customer engagement in a competitive and evolving insurance market.

Established in 1963, NIC is Tanzania’s national insurer, providing Life and General Insurance solutions to individuals, corporations, and public institutions. In recent years, the Corporation has accelerated its transformation agenda, expanding digital access through platforms such as NIC Kiganjani, Website Portal, and Chartbot, improving claims management processes, and aligning its operations with international best practices.

The achievement comes as NIC implements its Corporate Strategic Plan 2026-2030, which prioritises sustainable growth, customer experience, digital transformation, and strong governance. These strategic pillars also align with Tanzania Vision 2050, which calls for resilient public institutions capable of supporting long-term economic development.

As insurance penetration remains a key driver of economic stability across emerging markets, NIC’s continued recognition underscores the role of trusted national institutions in advancing financial inclusion, risk protection, and investor confidence.

NIC management says the focus ahead will remain on strengthening customer trust, expanding digital engagement, and reinforcing the Corporation’s role as a dependable partner for households, businesses, and governments both in Tanzania and across the region.

Kenya’s Naivas receives Superbrands recognition!

Kenya’s leading supermarket brand earns East Africa recognition while opening new outlets

KENYA – Naivas Supermarket has been certified as a Superbrand for the period 2024 to 2026, earning recognition for quality, reliability, and distinction across East Africa.

The Superbrands Council certification identifies Naivas as the only Kenyan supermarket to receive this accolade, redefining its position as a major player in the region’s retail sector.

Company representatives described the award as an acknowledgement of the confidence customers, employees, and partners place in Naivas’ operations and services.

The supermarket chain operates a network of teams responsible for daily store operations, supply management, and customer service, supporting its ongoing presence in Kenya’s retail market.

This announcement coincides with Naivas’ recent opening of its 114th store at Ruaka Mall in Nairobi, expanding access to its full product range in a rapidly developing residential and commercial area.

The Ruaka outlet follows the chain’s launch of its 112th store in Mihango, Nairobi, as part of a rollout strategy targeting growing neighbourhoods while maintaining controlled growth.

According to the retailer, the Ruaka location creates employment opportunities and strengthens partnerships with suppliers across Naivas’ distribution network.

Naivas’ expansion is part of a long-term plan announced in November, which outlines opening up to 10 new outlets annually toward a goal of reaching 200 stores across Kenya.

At the time of the announcement, the chain operated 111 outlets, demonstrating a strategy focused on balancing urban centres with emerging towns rather than concentrating exclusively in established retail hubs.

The company has emphasised that new openings are designed to increase shopper convenience and maintain consistent service standards across its network.
